1879. To a lot of people, it’s just a year in history books, but to us, it’s our heritage. When we first opened our doors to Saint Louis in 1879, we offered all things optical—not just eyewear, but also binoculars, camera equipment, microscope, and telescope lenses. As the years passed, we narrowed our focus to eyeglasses so that we could hone and perfect our craft.

Today, Erker’s Fine Eyewear is one of the great American establishments in the world of optical design, and at over 140 years old, one of the oldest. But we will never be content to rest on our laurels: we will continue to refine our tastes and evolve our eyewear for as long as people need glasses.

FOR GENERATIONS UPON GENERATIONS…

Erker’s isn’t just a name passed down through the decades, it’s a combination of expertise and craftsmanship that we’ve built our reputation on. We’re a 5th-generation business, and the oldest optical company in the U.S. still owned by the founding family.

Curated Collections

Curated, Constantly Updated Collections

Over the years, we’ve developed an unmatched sense for fine lenses, durable frame materials and builds, and exceptional designs. We continuously scour the globe and edit our collections to bring unparalleled classics and the cutting edge of fashion to our shelves. Our clients expect unique and outstanding independent eyewear from us, which is why we don’t follow trends — we set them.

Turning Expertise into Eyewear

With mastery in a field comes the impulse to contribute to the field. At least, that’s been our experience, and has led to the development of our own eyewear lines, Erker’s 1879 and NW77th. Our eyeglasses represent the culmination of decades of industry knowledge, and of our multi-generational commitment to providing the most exquisite and effective frames, lenses, and optical services to our clients.

Expertise into Eyewear

THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT — AND CLEAR

We’ve evolved with the times to offer the best and latest in frames and lenses, to create extraordinary eyewear of our own, and to expand into ventures like the distinct Eye Roc Eyewear brand. Ultimately, it has all been for you. We’re grateful for your past and continued part to play in our success; you’ve made us what we are today, and we’ll always serve you with the class and compassion you deserve.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR HISTORY

Superior Quality

Superior Quality from The Start

In the early days, we sold anything with a lens: eyeglasses, sunglasses, cameras, goggles, microscopes, telescopes, binoculars, you name it. In fact, our cameras were so renowned that we were honored to serve as the official photographer for the 1904 Saint Louis World’s Fair.

Setting Our Sights High

In 1927, Charles Lindbergh flew the Spirit of St. Louis, a single-seat monoplane, on the first solo, nonstop, transatlantic flight from New York to Paris — and he trusted our advanced, wind-resistant, shatterproof, form-fitting goggles to help him make history.

The First Optical Lab West of the Mississippi

The First Optical Lab West of the Mississippi

In the mid-1900s, we opened the most advanced optical lab in the U.S., and the first west of the Mississippi river, to awards and accolades. It enabled us to manufacture, cut, and ground lenses for all kinds of frames onsite, for fast turnaround without sacrificing quality.
